id card taken,

listening: perfect, hedley

so the id card picture has been taken, and the id card redesign looks bomb. being that we have to wear them on our nice black aberhart lanyards, they've been verticalified and it's a black and orange gradient with the picture center left opposite the aberhart logo. school name up top, your name down bottom. for any aberhartians that are reading this, this description was for rae. also it's a darker orange, by the looks of it. not as garish.
i'm still wondering if we can substitute our own lanyards for the aberhart one, although i'm not sure i will. i thought that they would be bright orange with little white A's all over it, but it's just black with orange WILLIAM ABERHART 'A' repeated on it. it's actually kind of nice.
so tomorrow is my last day of summer. it has been an alright summer, not much has happened, really.
it's been a trip to edmonton, lots of work, some xbox, some friends, and lots and lots of cold weather. it's like winter vacation but longer.
oh, and a really crappy calaway job was accepted and then quit.
so, farewell, summer 2010, you kind of sucked and i want you to leave now and never come back.
hello, autumn 2010, i sure don't care if you're better weather-wise, but you better be a heck of a lot more interesting than summer.
see you on thursday, aberhart.

pictures tomorrow!

listening: cassie, flyleaf

flyleaf isn't even good. i don't know why i keep listening to them. here we go

listening: econoline crush, what it's like

so, school pictures are tomorrow. which is, well, awesome. because it means school starts on thursday! i know, you're surprised too.
my keyboard is bugging me, it needs to stop switching to french. i was in the middle of writing this post and it went french, so instead of finishing, i waited until it autosaved and then restarted my computer just to avoid the terror known as the frogs.
sorry for the short post, but i'm not feeling it right now.

ladies and gentlemen,

listening: will you be there, pillar

it. is. cold. it is so cold i climbed into my deep freeze for warmth. my blood has ice crystals in it. i am wearing a thermal sweater and a flannel shirt on top and i am still cold. mind you, it probably doesn't help that i'm drinking an ice cold coke. delicious, refreshing!
i am ashamed to admit that i watched high school musical 3 last night/finished it this morning. it wasn't as bad as the other two, but it wasn't good either.
and the plot was incredibly thin. i predicted everything except for the random songs. i think the franchise would be so much better if they weren't musicals. except then they would be just low budget movies with no plot and no acting ability. so scratch that idea.
my arm is feeling better after i bruised the muscle yesterday. a hot bath will do its magic every time. and there might be another one coming my way today being that it is...7 degrees. calgary! it's august! warm up!
school starts thursday! i know i've been counting down, but this is unprecedented. school always manages to sneak up, even when you're looking forward to it. id pictures tuesday, hopefully my hair stops being so noticeably short by then, although the chances of that happening are equal to my chances of winning the lottery (even though i don't buy tickets) and taming a squirrel. although that would be awesome and i would give it to rae so that she stops trying to make me buy her a hamster. :D

weekends rock, then you die?

listening: the con, tegan and sara
ben folds, bruised

titles are hard to come up with, as evidenced by the title of this post. and by the lack of a title my story in progress has. people who have read the first few chapters, i am open to suggestions. keep it simple please, as long complicated titles suck.
rae, i have figured out that if i ever need music, i only have to go to slowseptember and look at the 'listening:' thing. so thank you for that.
anyway, parents are in edmonton for the weekend and alanna has work until six, so i have a...2 hour window to write sans distraction. actually, that's a lie, i probably won't write at all, but i promise to put up another chapter before school starts again. so if i don't blog (rae) don't freak out or get mad, because i'm working on new and exciting forms of entertainment for the huddled masses. can i get an 'aces' from any random person? thank you, creepy pedo man who comes into the library every tuesday and stares at me.
i'm kidding, of course.
although, the library does attract some riff-raff. there was a very sexist man in the teen section the other day. my page compadre jane went to push in some chairs by him and he flipped out and yelled at her. so we used me as a test to see if he was a jack-ass or just racist (jane is asian)/sexist. he glared at me a bit, but didn't say a word as i smiled sweetly in his direction and bashed his head in with his own foot.

oh phone, why do you suck?

listening: sahara, relient k (again and again)

'was it the lying or his pride that brought him down?'
i love this song.
anyway, i'm starting to wonder why all phones want me to smash them with a large gold brick. this nokia i have now was obviously not designed for heavy-duty texting. 700 texts in two days and the keypad is starting to crap out. if it was my computer keyboard, m tping woud lok like ths. it's quite annoying, because after i write a message i have to go back through it and spell check it, because there is a 95% chance it's buggered somehow.
and using a british term there reminded me that i got the complete first season of the office (british version!) from the library. free. i love working there, i do.
gareth: you're very immature
tim: i'm not
'gareth's phone rings'
gareth: gareth keenan
tim: (over phone) cock!
i love british humour.
so, school starts in less than a week. as a matter of fact, i go on tuesday to get my picture taken. it has sunk in- grade 11 isn't just approaching, grade 11 is here.
this could get interesting.
on a side note, please check out my writing blog- 116amstories.blogspot.com

untitled new story- rough draft 1

Matt Kent glanced at his alarm clock which was screeching country music at decibels too high for the hour. With a snarl, he punched the off button and swung his muscular legs out of bed and ambled off to his bathroom. He glanced in the mirror and grinned. What he saw was a 17 year old boy, 6'1, with tousled light brown hair and ice blue eyes. His muscles had finally caught up to the rest of his body, and he had the lean build of a track runner. ‘If only my asthma would let me run, I would whoop everyone on the field.’Matt thought to himself. He shrugged off the negativity and climbed into the steaming water. Normally he would wash lightly, just enough to wash off the thin layer of grime that had accumulated however today he scrubbed every inch of himself. Brushed his teeth and took three gulps of mouthwash, two of which he swallowed. Dressed himself in his nicest ‘school appropriate clothes’ which consisted of a slim blue hoodie and narrow leg jeans, what he hoped would attract the girl that he had been chasing for the better part of a year.

A hasty breakfast later, Matt was in his car heading for school, rehearsing what to say to Amanda Williams. Every time he saw her, he got a smile that he didn’t manage to conjure up for anyone else. He knew that he was completely smitten with her, everyone knew. Andy had been egging him on for months, and today was the day he would finally open up. He adjusted the rearview mirror to see his face as he merged on to the freeway and began practicing his expressions. “Hey Aman-“He never finished the sentence. There was a Hyundai SUV stalled out in his lane, and going 100 kilometres an hour, he ploughed into the rear end.

*

Heather Greenwood applied the finishing touches to her eyeliner before arranging her black hair into the style that made her parents cringe every time they saw it. ‘It serves them right, divorcing and neither one fighting for me.’ With a grimace, she pulled her seventeen year old frame into her black skinny jeans and rummaged around for her Bring Me the Horizon t-shirt. She grunted as she pulled it down, which meant one thing. She poked her head out of her bedroom door. With no parents or annoying sister in sight, she sprinted to the bathroom and stuck her middle finger down her throat, disposing of the little breakfast she had eaten that morning, then brushed her teeth to get rid of the smell the purging had wrought.

Ten minutes later she was in the back seat of her father’s 'soccer-mom' Hyundai Santa-Fe, headed for another day of emotional torture some people call Baker High School. Suddenly a grinding noise came from under her feet, and the vehicle slowed to a stop. Her dad let loose a profanity and got out of the car to raise the hood. Before he could get around the front of the car, he watched in horror as a small Japanese car sped full speed into the trunk and came to a rest upside down above his daughter.

*

“What do we have?”

“Seventeen year old male, fractured skull, fractured neck, three broken ribs, broken femur, and multiple internal injuries.”

“Turf him to surgery, if he makes it through the night, it’ll be a freaking miracle. What about the other vehicle?”

“Seventeen year old female, two broken ribs, punctured lung and major concussion. She’s been intubated and she’s stable. We’ll schedule surgery in the morning.”

*

Matt awoke with a start. “Lights, lights aren’t supposed to be on at this time? I’m gonna get Dad back for this one. What time is it? Manda will kill me if she realises I slept in. Where are my pyjamas? Man, my head hurts. Wait...”

The neck brace was restricting his movement. He couldn’t feel anything below his neck, anyway. Looking around, he saw the intravenous tube sticking out of his hand. Opened his mouth to cry out, his head was really hurting now. He head a low, piteous moan and realised it came from him.

Matt was about to start screaming for his father when he heard a noise beside him. Unable to look, he tried to speak again, but all that came out was the same moan from before.

“You’re awake! Doctor! My son woke up!”

Footsteps. There was someone rushing to his room, but where was his room? He felt confused, he was in pain, and there was a tube in his mouth and in his hand. With a small sigh, he let sleep take him once more.

*

Two rooms away, Heather was fuming. She felt good enough to get up and walk, they had reinflated her lung already, and her ribs were set back into place, but if she wanted to go anywhere she had to call a nurse to lift her into a wheelchair. And they wouldn’t even let her see the boy who had hit her; she wanted to punch him in the face for causing this. Oh, he would suffer so much. “I bet they let him go wherever he wants because he’s a boy. I’ll make him pay for all of this.” Deciding on the spot to solve this herself, she stumbled over to her chair and wheeled herself to the boy’s room two doors down.

As she wheeled into his room, she was immediately shocked at what she saw. There were no doctors in sight, the boy’s father and the physician were down the hall talking. Slowly, she wheeled herself to the chart hanging on the end of his bed.

*

Matt was slipping in and out of consciousness. He would be awake for five seconds, then the image he saw would be burned into his retinas until he awoke again. For two hours, he saw a slim girl in a wheelchair reading a chart at the end of his bed, tear marks on her high cheekbones.

He awoke again to see the girl talking to his father and another man. Doctor? No, no lab coat or scrubs. The girl’s father maybe. He attempted to greet them, but what came out was a raspy ‘hello’. No more tube in his throat then. Saw the girls eyes open wide.

“I thought you must be dead,” she began. “I’m the girl you hit.”

Matt raced through his mind. “Hit? Accident. Car accident. Nicole...shit. I was in a car accident. Hyundai. Blue. Man beside it, this man?’

“Sorry,” the words grated his throat. “I’m-“

And he lapsed back into unconsciousness.

*

Heather was pretty sure she was in shock. The accident was beginning to take its toll, sitting for so long in her wheelchair was making her ribs hurt like a son of a gun. The boy had fallen asleep again, probably because of the morphine they were pumping into his veins, so she grimaced and wheeled herself back to her room down the hall, and with her dad’s help, got back into bed.

”Sorry. Little prick, that’s all he says? I’m gonna sue the crap out of him.” Her dad was fuming, pacing around her room with an intensity he usually saved for when her mother came into the room.

“Dad-“

“Save it. We’ll get every cent out of him, no one hurts my daughter and gets away with it.”

“Don’t do this, can’t you see he’s suffered enough?!” The words came easily, and they hit their mark perfectly. Her dad looked flabbergasted that she had even mentioned it, like she didn’t want the money.

“I’m fine,” she continued. “It’s him we have to worry about. Look at the state of him, for goodness sake! And you want to take the little money that family will have left after medical bills just so that you don’t have to work to pay alimony for a couple months. Dad, get out of here and let me get some sleep!”

The words worked to get her dad out of her room, but there was no way she was sleeping. There were too many thoughts going through her head.

WAS IT THE LYING OR THE PRIDE

listening: sahara- relient k

apparently you can call the school and get your timetable.
i don't know how, when i called yesterday the automated voice yelled at me that NO ONE got their timetable. it made me cry. computers can be so mean.
in other news, i have over 600 messages in my text inbox. also the keypad on my phone is failing me. it was not designed for heavy usage.
um, i'm writing another story. it starts depressing but then it gets better. i'll post it when i finish more of it.
food! food is a necessity at the moment. so i'll talk to y'alls later
-brett

DEATH CAB TIME? MAYBE LATER!

listening: if you believe me- relient k

i am indeed in a death cab mood. but...i don`t have plans on my computer and let`s face it, narrow stairs is not as good.
i may not have plans on my computer, but i have a plan for the fall in my head.
it`s the same plan i have every year!
work harder, blah blah blah.
the difference is i`m motivated!
isn`t that fun?
yes, yes it is.
can you tell yet that i have nothing to talk about?
my new bike is sick.
flyleaf is playing in my room, relient k is playing on my computer.
-brett

ROCK THE RIVER

listening: i`m so sick- flyleaf

so do you want to know every detail about rock the river? no? too bad!
it was epic.
that pretty much sums it up. hawk nelson sucked, as always, skillet tried but was ultimately beaten by flyleaf. seriously, they were amazing.
um, dad`s in switzerland for four days or so, so i`ll be home alone from monday to friday. sounds like fun, i know.
in the meantime, i`ll be reading through approximately one million books i took out from the library and listening through one million cd`s jenn lent me.
sorry for the short post, but i`m hungry.
-brett

OOPS, I MISSED YESTERDAY

listening: the almost- dirty and left out

sorry general public. i missed posting yesterday. usually when i miss a post i do a recap but that seems like a cheat. instead i will talk about me! isn`t that exciting!
no it isn`t.
religion?
talked to death.
music?
no.
sisters?
ah, there we go.
i`m busy watching my sisters, both of them. partly to avoid pitfalls in my own life, partly for inspiration.
rae first. i wanted to be like her for the longest time, to be frank. have all the friends, ambition, a plan for university. i still do, but i`m learning to be myself now. i saw her go to university, and make the decision to drop out, i saw her move into a dorm, her first house, my cousins house, and now her second house. and it makes me think if she can do it, i can too. so a clink of the glass to you, rae. keep inspiring me.
and alanna now. i watched her effectively grow up in a day and a half. she has started making pretty epic mature decisions in her quest to move out. she has a plan now, she has a job, she`s getting control. that inspires me too, because if alanna can do it, i should theoretically be able to too.
how`s that for a post?
-brett

YOU WERE SO MUCH BETTER THAN ME

listening: relient k- there was no thief

the relient k is getting out of control. all afternoon i`ve had all seven? albums on shuffle.
and you know i`m losing it when i can`t remember if i posted yesterday or not.
anyway, i finally got to drive again last night, being that alanna has been driving the sentra because her car`s all broken and whatnot. and i`m not too happy about it, being that that increases the chance of it being destroyed before it belongs to me. and i want that car.
so...15 days till school, not counting today.
my goal is an 80%+ average, with no mark below 75. and i`m wondering if it`s possible for me to get a 92.5 average, which is equal to a 3.7 gpa, which is what i`ll need for med school entrance if i want to do it with only 2 years prior in university. ergh.
work tonight, two hours.
id card pictures in 13 days not counting today.
-brett

FORGETTING ALL I`M LACKING

listening: hanging by a moment- lifehouse

today was, well, it was boring. not much happened.
work.
milkshake.
and that`s it!
oh, and i just saw the weirdest star trek episode ever. search up yesterday`s enterprise and you might get it, although nothing compares to actually seeing it. basically there`s time traveling, dead people that come back to life and the like.
and i love the library`s free cd`s for staff members policy. mainly because lifehouse is my new best friend.
all in all, not much to blog about today. i didn`t even really talk to any of my friends today. it was just one of those days.
hopefully something interesting happens tomorrow and i can get in depth or some crap like that.
-brett

SYLVAN LAKE PHOTO EXTRAVAGANZA

listening: be my escape- relient k

attempting, and failing, to take stalker pictures. note leaves.
danny had the same camera as me. underwater photos in the hot tub, in other words. this is before i discovered a small crack in the casing. i would have been fine, as i found out later, but this was the last watery picture i took.
danny`s vaguely homosexual goggles

matt saw God in the locker room at the water park
and ben saw a surprising lack of funds in his wallet.

i didn`t take very many pictures, being that most of the time we were in the water. but i hope these provide a good visual aid.

I GIVE IN TO THE TRIED AND TRUE

listening: relient k- the one i`m waiting for

there are actually two relient k songs that i`ve been addicted to. and so i`m going to put the choruses for all to see!

come right out and say it
*
Why don't you
Come right out and say it?
Even if the words are probably gonna hurt
I'd rather have the truth
Than something insincere
Why don't you
Come right out and say it (come right out and say it)?
What it is you're thinking
Though I'm thinking it's not what I wanna hear

i need you
*
I need you
I need you here
I need you now
I need security somehow
I need you
Like you would not believe
You're the only thing I want
Cause you're everything I need

i know, i`m pretty lame for doing this. but i don`t really want to blog. today has been kind of a grouchy day for everyone.

I JUST HAVE BRUISED AND BATTERED HANDS

listening: i need you- relient k

the relient k kick is going strong.
seriously, five score is, atm, one of my favorite albums.
so today was a pretty good day. sylvan lake. time to chronologicify it. and a new word! aces.
8:22 am: wake up. have to be at the church by 9.
8:25 am: step out of the shower
8:30 am: choke down some frosted flakes
9:00 am: leave the church
10:30 am: arrive in red deer, purchase some mcdonalds cinnamon twist things and a coke.
11:00 am: arrive at sylvan
11:30 am: danny and i brave the frigid 4 degrees of sylvan lake.
11:45 am: with literally blue arms, we emerge from the murky depths
12:00 pm: amble over to the waterpark.
12:00 pm-4:00 pm: waterpark madness- chili dogs, half pipes, tube chains, etc.
4:30 pm: leave sylvan
5:00 pm- 6:00 pm: dinner at mcdonalds in red deer- double big mac, fries, coke, triple spun chocolate shake (large)
8:00 pm: arrive in calgary

so all in all, it was a pretty good day. i am satisfied, but now i desperately need sleep. tomorrow will be interesting.

(now that`s more like a post, not these piddly little posts i`ve been doing. once school starts up again my life will be more interesting. promise)

I CAN SMELL THE DEATH ON THE SHEETS COVERING ME

listening: deathbed- relient k

tonight was youth!
grounders, s`mores, chips, fire, friends.
what could be better really?
sorry for the short post, i`m not in a writing mood.

THIS POST HAS NO TITLE! OK, THIS COUNTS AS A TITLE

listening: new found glory- all downhill from here
mood: productive
doing: just finished cleaning
planning: how to discipline myself. if i can learn how to do that before school starts, school will be a breeze
happy: yes
thinking: too much to put here
leaving now: yes i am

I`VE BEEN MISGUIDED BY YOU

listening: basbhat- the audition

so today was an interesting day, if only in my mind.
i started thinking about who i wanted to be, who i really wanted to be.
and i thought back to previous years.
i always managed to make myself an easy target. i became that kid who you couldn`t count on to save your life.
well, i think this year is the time to break that image. because i`m not going to lay down this year.
ready? my primary objective- +80% average, with no mark below 75%.
secondary objectives- refresh my image
-don`t back down
-stop making myself an easy target
i try not to get personal too much on my blog, but this is something that`s been eating at me for four years now.
time for a change.

MY POSTS ARE GETTING SHORTER

listening: nothing. weird, huh?

so being that my blog posts are getting shorter and shorter, i thought i would crank out a long one. we'll see how it goes.
tonight is a barbecue at the church for dan and laura leffelaar, the candidate for the hub (campus and post-grad ministry at brentview). starts at 6, and apparently i'm going.
i worked today at 11, and it was one of the easiest times i've ever had at the library.
went to the mall afterwards and got a shirt from h&m. i hope i'm not turning into a prep.
uh, i ate a caesar salad.
i saw the cutest chihuahua ever at petland. seriously, she was gorgeous.
rae, when you move into a place that's allowed to have pets, i'm getting you a budgie or two. or a hamster.
inferno is done, moving on to purgatorio.

I FORGOT TO BLOG YESTERDAY.

listening: lullaby- the spill canvas

so i've realized my subconscious decision to not use capitals in my blog post. i'm going to be a rebel then. or not. i'm reading the divine comedy, by dante. it's difficult, and i'm rereading entire cantos to understand. i'm almost done inferno, so i'm pretty proud of myself. anyway, i have to work today and i've yet to eat anything, so this will have to be quick. school starts in 25 days. my birthday is in 56 days, i believe.

AW SHI-

listening: lullaby- the spill canvas

i'm enjoying all the cd's jenn lent me. (i owe you)
anyway, i'm extremely tired but i didn't blog today yet.
so i'll get all mushy.
i'm really enjoying actually talking to friends during the summer instead of just being a hermit, like i did all through junior high. in fact, i'm happier then i've been in a while. so thank you, summer of 2010. i owe you too.
-brett

HAPPY?

listening: nothing, i'm importing the cd's jenn lent me though

so today was a good day.
chronological and then analytical later.
1:00 pm: met up with jenn at crowfoot chapters
1:30 pm: went up to crowfoot library
2:00 pm: petland! i got bit by like 150 000 different species
was it 3:00 pm? cineplex, zombie games ftw
3:30-esque pm: back to chapters and just talking and stuff.
5:00 pm: home
7-9 pm: water fight, which jenn also came to.

so it was a good day i think, and i'm legit too tired to go all analytical, so good night. so long and thanks for all the fish.

BLASTED CBE

listening: skillet- hero

first, something weird. my razor has disappeared.
and the four extra blades i had.
they were in two different places.
i'm considering making posters.
anyway, the cbe sucks.
i was looking forward to getting my timetable, but due to a cbe computer error, i won't be getting it until the first day.
and now i'm going to work

WHEN A HEART BREAKS NO IT DON'T BREAK EVEN

listening: you stupid girl- framing hanley

school= t-minus 31 days
this has been a summer of boring.
now that rae and craig are gone, there is not much to do at home. i've reread harry potter, alex rider, and four douglas coupland books. i've played through call of duty 4, modern warfare 2, and all four halos. i've slept, walked, gotten energy drinks, and rode my bike. and i'm pining for school. fantastic. if anyone want's to do anything, don't hesitate to call me. chances are good i won't be busy.
i'm going to see salt tonight with dad and alanna. it should be interesting.
-brett

YOU WOULD THINK I HAD SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT AFTER 4 DAYS IN EDMONTON

listening: hold that sound- moneen

hello, y'alls
sorry for the lack of posting, my computer was having wifi troubles in edmonton.
and i felt awkward on the computer at sarah and ben's.
so, dad was telling me all about alanna's plans to move out, and all the stuff she had to do to make it happen, and i was just absorbing it for when it's my turn.
it involves basically a full time job, food, etc. it's expensive to live on your own!
anyway, this post is taking a long time to write, so i might just rant for the rest of it
i need more posters for my room.
i want to go back to school.
i'm wearing a blue hoodie.
wilbur sargunaraj is staring at me from my wall.
